ISSUE 39 – ARCHIVE: GREECE, PART I: 1951 - 1963
Overview
On the assumption of editorial responsibility for a periodical, a statement of intent to its prospective readership is called for. The intent in question may be construed as a function of the situation in which architecture currently finds itself, the circumstances under which it is practiced, and the editors’ will, ability, and stamina.
Today architecture seems to be in a situation that has changed a great deal compared to recent years. A multiplicity of approaches without any particular trend is holding sway, strong personalities and individualised agendas prevail, amidst ever more complex administrative and constructional procedures, unfamiliar means and processes for financing or managing, and, paradoxically, an increasingly ponderous and determinative participation in the production chain, gradually undermining the architect’s Rule.
