GREEK ARCHITECTURE AWARDS 2011
Overview
In the 'GREEK ARCHITECTURE AWARDS 2011' fifteen works were shortlisted. Within this group of top-ranking designs there are five built works, three first buildings by young architects, two works of new architecture in existing structures and five projects. There are seven works of residential and six of public character. Once again there were almost no submissions of social infrastructure designs. The percentage of shortlisted projects of public character has increased in comparison to last year; however, only two of the works have been commissioned by the public sector. It is quite significant that two or three out of fifteen works were commissioned by international institutional clients, which might show a compulsive way out of Greece’s long standing corrupt and ineffective system of public commissions for emerging professionals, unless things change soon.
