KATOIKIES IN THE SUBURBS

Overview

The KATOIKIES series is dedicated to contemporary Greek houses, where each issue examines a different aspect of the Greek landscape and reveals to us how architects are influenced by, interact with, or even comment on the relationship of the contemporary residence with its environment.

The first issue of the KATOIKIES series (July 2022) was dedicated to the seaside landscape, while this year's second issue has as its theme the suburbs. From suburbs of Athens such as Ilioupoli, Filothei and Ekali, to the resort suburbs of Artemis and Salamina, along with a brief stop on the outskirts of Ioannina, the issue of RESIDENCES in the Suburbs' is a rich journey that explores the character, the identity and trends we observe in the contemporary Greek suburban fabric. The material of the issue is complemented by archival material, which looks back on the evolution of Greek suburban architecture and introduces us to the historical context from which modern architectural approaches emerge, and with which they converse.
