Description
An industrial installation is a living organism. It needs expansion and alteration, it often changes function, use, requirements. For this reason, its buildings never take a definite form, but should have the ability to adapt and mutate in layout and space.
In the past two years, the Plant at Maroussi, 8 klm. to the north of Athens, has expanded three-fold in both buildings and production. The basic consideration of the architects was how to add to an existing building (architect J. Rizos), while creating a unity of form, and at the same time resist the temptation of imposing a static and immutable solution. This necessitated a serious analysis of industrial operations and development prospects. An effort was made to give a plain character to the interiors befitting their industrial function, but without neglecting to create a pleasant environment for the people working in them. The exterior is of bare concrete, stone and glass, used with directness and simplicity.
