Description

On a sloped plot, an extensive terrace is formed, upon which the residence is erected, oriented toward the sun. The building is positioned in the northwest section of the site, perpendicular to the contour lines, along an east-west axis. This placement ensures that all living spaces open to the south, while remaining protected from the harsh northern winds. The architectural design takes advantage of the site's natural incline to create courtyards at various levels and an expansive roof terrace, allowing the interior spaces to flow effortlessly into the outdoors.

Designed to accommodate a family of five, the residence is developed vertically across three levels, with an additional lower level housing a playroom and auxiliary spaces. The living areas and bedrooms open toward the low-angled winter sun, creating bright, pleasant interiors and enabling the capture of thermal energy. External solar shading, cross-ventilation, and the thermal mass of the building envelope help keep the house cool during the summer months. Vegetation in the surrounding landscape improves the microclimate, ensuring comfortable and healthy living conditions both inside and outside the residence year-round.

The incorporation of passive bioclimatic design systems contributes to energy savings, while providing thermal and visual comfort for the occupants. This approach also strengthens the harmonious, direct connection between the indoor areas and the courtyards. The exterior façades have been carefully designed with an alternating rhythm of solid and void elements, depending on orientation and view. The building’s form is articulated through the combination of various construction materials: a retaining wall of exposed concrete supports the fragmented volume of the residence above, which is composed of colored plaster surfaces, metal structures, and glazing elements.
